Here at DFW Hot Tubs, we are frequently asked, “can I get a hot tub by this weekend?” We will do our best to accommodate most requests, but there are a few factors to keep in mind. The beauty of a self-contained hot tub like a Sundance® Spa, is that you just need a place to put it, electricity to it, and a hose to fill it with water. Everything is built into the tub for it to operate and keep the water clean. If you have a home in Plano, Frisco, or anywhere in the DFW metro area, you may have an existing patio to enjoy the North Texas outdoors. If you have space available for a hot tub, this makes for an easy installation where a Plug n’ Play Hot Tub might be right for you.
The Plug n’ Play Hot Tub refers to the category of spas with the ability to operate off a standard electrical outlet. Simply set the hot tub, fill it with water, and plug it in. No electrician required. This can make for an easy installation and likely significant savings without the additional need for a dedicated electrical supply. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when choosing this option.
- Hot Tub size – The models that accommodate the ability to plug n’ play will usually be sized to fit 2-4 adults. (If you need something bigger, typically more pumps and a larger heater plus more electricity than a standard outlet will be needed.)
- Additional electrical devices – The plug n’ play units still need the ability to draw up to fifteen amps of electrical current when needed, typically while heating. Although Sundance® Spas are very well insulated, they still need to be heated from time to time. If there are other electrical devices on the same circuit, such as an electric cooker, refrigerator, or lighting that are operating at the same time as the tub, the combination may overload the circuit.
- Distance between tub and outlet – Make sure the outlet to be used for the hot tub is within the vicinity of where the tub will be placed. The supplied electrical plug is ten feet long and an extension cord cannot be used. Make sure the cord placement will also not become a trip hazard for anyone walking near the tub.
Sundance® Spas has a variety of models available with the plug n’ play feature and our team of hot tub experts can help you find the right one for you. We are also dedicated to making sure your hot tub is safe for your family to use, eliminating the worry that comes when you have water and electricity in the same vicinity. If there is ever a question about whether your electrical connection and/or your hot tub is safe to use, our on-staff electricians are happy to ensure that it is. If you are interested in purchasing a hot tub, have a hot tub service need, or you purchased one elsewhere, DFW Hot Tubs is committed to making your hot tub experience a safe one.
